“O Lord Save Thy People”
Yesterday, in the Orthodox Church, we celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Life-Giving Cross. I had planned to continue the series of poems about Saint George but found myself meditating on some of the elements of the feast and decided to write today’s poem instead.
The way of the Cross is the path on which Christ grants life to the world and on which we lose our life to find it transfigured. God grants us strength, arming us with the power of the Cross as we journey towards becoming ever more like Christ. One of the greatest opportunities to seek this path of humility and love is in the communion of marriage. With the Cross as my aid, I pray I will live out my calling as a husband and father, serving as an icon of Christ and a testament of God’s sacrificial love.
As Christ loved the Church: A Poem
Adorn yourself with martyr crown Let suffering now trickle down First lost, then sought and found True life and love in bridal gown Ascend upon the hill of time Bear her cross with mercy kind Trial and joys forever bind Together everlasting light to find
Thank you for your support!
I am incredibly grateful for your support in all of its many forms! Whether it is your subscription to this newsletter or a kind word in the comments section, all of these encourage me to continue writing and creating for the glory of God!
Today, I would like to humbly ask for your financial support of my work. As you may know, there are expenses connected with being an author. While I am thankful my professional career allows me to provide for my family, I am limited in the resources I can devote to my creative efforts. Your support would allow me to dedicate more to my pursuit of sharing beauty with the world.
If you would like to financially support my work, there are two available options:
1. Support one-time or periodically via PayPal
Please use this link: https://paypal.me/drewchancey?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US
2. Become a paid Substack subscriber with a monthly or annual subscription.
I've enabled the option to upgrade to a paid subscription. All of my newsletters will remain free for everyone for the foreseeable future. At a later date, I may offer exclusive content for paid subscribers but for now, your paid subscription is simply another way to say you appreciate and value my work. Of course, you may cancel at any time.
Thank you for your support. Above all, please pray for me!
With gratitude,
Drew Chancey

Music Recommendation
If you’ve never listened to the Arcadian Wild, I’d highly recommend checking them out. This song is one of my current favorites. Enjoy!
Beautiful poem Drew! I do a good bit of marriage counseling and look forward to sharing this with some of my clients. Thank you for posting it.
